The McMannis Preschool and Child Care Center represents our Christian commitment to the community and its children. The school was founded in 1970 through the vision and efforts of church member Marion McMannis and has earned an enviable reputation in Pinellas County. A new wing to house the school was added in 1997.

With its Christian focus, the school’s mission is “to provide a safe, nurturing environment that meets the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, creative, social, and physical needs of our children.”

Our preschool has classes for 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds. After-school care is offered to children from ages 2 to 13. We also participate in the VPK program, which offers a free program for pre-kindergarten children.

Susan Sanders has been our school director for 10 years. Susan has a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky, and has earned director's credentials.

Mary Ryan serves as program coordinator and director of summer camp. She has served here for 10 years also. She has a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from the University of Charleston, Charleston, West Virginia, and a master's degree in health and special needs services from Montclair State College, Upper Montclair, New Jersey.

Our teachers are accredited, are required to update those accreditations regularly, and have undergone background checks, as have any of our church employees and members who have dealings with the children.

For a fee, we pick up with our 2008 Ford van those after-care children who attend Bay Vista Fundamental and Lakeview Fundamental schools. We also pick up at Lakewood and Maximo Elementary schools when children from those schools are enrolled in our after-care program. Because Bay Point Elementary is so close, children from that school who attend our after-care program are escorted to St. Andrew on foot by our teachers. The van is used also to transport the elementary students on field trips.

Our school year coincides with the Pinellas County school schedule. We offer a summer camp when school is out for the year.

In October 2009, our McMannis Preschool and Child Care Center was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Educational Ministry from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Vocation and Education Unit, Schools and Early Childhood Education Centers Program Area, for its forty years of ministry to children and their families.
